Nestled within a private enclave at Mauna Kea on Hawaii’s Big Island, we collaborated closely with the homeowners to curate a meaningful design narrative. The interior environment was thoughtfully composed to honor and highlight the family’s cherished heirlooms, artwork and antiquities—treasures preserved and passed down through generations. The project called for a comprehensive interior renovation with the goal of creating sophisticated, fresh, and modern living spaces. Unexpected design elements were seamlessly integrated to create fluid transitions between interior rooms and the outdoor lanai, enhancing the home’s connection to its natural surroundings.

Custom flooring materials were selected to elevate the interiors, while dramatic stone slabs were used to clad the primary bathroom walls and floors, as well as the kitchen island and backsplash, resulting in bold and dynamic focal points.

Exterior enhancements complemented the interior transformation, including the addition of a new guest house, updated landscaping, a reimagined pool and pool lanai, and new entry doors—all punctuated with subtle touches of antique bronze. The result is a residence that delivers an authentic Hawaiian living experience.
