Jupiter Island, Florida Residence

Jupiter Island, FL

When this Miami businessman wanted a weekend getaway for himself and his friends, he chose the quiet atmosphere of Jupiter Island, a reasonable drive from the bustling city. The client, who delights in taking an active interest in the design of his homes, wanted a contemporary home with a Bahamian feel. Here he worked closely with a contractor/friend on the details.

He is, along with his brother, an avid collector of Floridian regional art and wanted to fill the house with some of his extensive collection. Philpotts Interiors was chosen to help with the design because we had already worked successfully with the client on a townhouse he purchased on the island of Lanai.

We selected contemporary furniture with Colonial references to achieve the look he wanted. “Tongue and groove” paneling throughout creates the feeling of a seaside cottage in the Bahamas. In the living room, we used a rough limestone from Malta to give the room the feeling of antiquity. The seating area invites comfortable lounging and conversation.

A fresh, white color palette on the walls to animate the owner’s art collection, which includes bronzes inherited from his parents. Relaxed, outdoor furniture on the deep, covered front lanai facing the ocean evokes the feeling of calm and serenity.

Both the main house and guest rooms open in the back to poolside lounge chairs and a large seating area for gathering in front of the outdoor fireplace. The finished house perfectly reflects the feeling of relaxed luxury and privacy the owner wanted to create.
