The luxury 248 residences in Hokua were among the first built in the vibrantly revived neighborhood of Kakaako. The chevron-shaped building allows residents sweeping views of Diamond Head, Ala Moana Park and the Ewa plain. Our goal was to create an environment that greeted the changing face of the city without losing the warmth of Old Hawaii.
We aimed for high quality and understated elegance in all the buildings’ public spaces. The entry lobby is clean-lined, spare and timeless. Elevator lobbies, hallways and terrace areas reference native Hawaiian themes, but in a pared-down contemporary way. An effort was made to include original artwork throughout from recognized island artists. Everywhere rich woods and natural stone such as travertine, marble, limestone and lava rock reference a more elemental Hawaii.
The tremendous success of Hokua led the developer to build more residential condominiums in the city that lead the way to a modern Honolulu sensibility.
