Its surface is made of transparent ceramic glass allowing integration of the color touch screen display that recognizes pot shape, size, and controls power setting and cooking time on the surface, while remaining cool to the touch. Additional benefits include:

• The freedom to place cookware anywhere on its surface, with 48 individual 3-inch induction heating elements, instead of the typical five predefined areas.

• It senses when a pot has moved to another location on the surface and continues cooking at the same temperature.

• Accommodates a 21” x 13” pan.

• The touch screen display uses technology similar to the iPad.

• Other induction cook tops uses 50 amps while Thermador’s only uses 40 amps. What will they come up with next?

Thermador's Three-in-One Steam and Convection Oven provides a quick and easy way to prepare healthy meals in one single appliance. What was once only available to gourmet restaurants is now available for the home. It is the industry's first steam oven that combines three distinct cooking solutions - steam, true convection and combination (steam and convection). Its benefits outweigh stove top, oven and microwave cooking. Here are some of its features:

  •      -- Healthier way to cook because it retains more of the nutrients and moisture in food
  •      -- Typically cooks in half the time of stove top or oven cooking
  •      -- Will not dry out food when reheating but instead infuses the moisture back into the food
  •      -- Saves energy
  •      -- 40 automatic food programs
  •      -- Many advanced cooking modes to meet specific needs
  •      -- 1.4 cubic-foot oven cavity is large enough for a 14 pound turkey
  •      -- Self cleaning

Photography by Matthew Millman

For a San Francisco native raised in the chilly, foggy Avenues, something close to heaven appeared decades ago off the bow of the SS Lurline, a posh Matson line steamer on the San Francisco-to-Honolulu run.

Hawaii - sunny with beaches of white sand lapped by water so welcoming a boy could swim year-round. Both grandmothers might be San Francisco natives, but Hawaii was his special place, a revelation where warmth caressed his soul.

Thus began a lifelong love affair with the islands. Throughout marriage and a move to sunny, warm Marin County to raise three daughters, the visits to Hawaii continued. Hawaii was not only his place; it was their place, the place outside the Bay Area.

And as retirement approached, the stars aligned when the couple spotted an advertisement for oceanfront property on Lanai in the Wall Street Journal. "We'd been there, and we'd seen it," said the boy's wife, a Larkspur native, who, like her husband, prefers to remain anonymous to protect the family's privacy. "We knew it was hard to find property on the water, so we thought we'll go and see what they had."

The let's-check-it-out trip turned into a let's-write-a-check moment as the Pacific Ocean provided a sparkling backdrop for views of Kahoolawe and the Big Island.

That was 1997. Today, the kid describes himself and his wife as "grandparent-type people," and the couple's second home on Lanai epitomizes the easy, unforced fusion of indoor and outdoor, Eastern and Western sensibilities that are the hallmark of Hawaiian style.

Philpotts Interiors is honored to announce our senior designer Holly Boling Ruiz was nominated by Theremador’s top dealers in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim to participate in Thermador’s special Design Council that was formed just three years ago. This council gives their input and recommendations on Thermador’s new product designs and brand. The design counsel includes industry leaders from America, Germany and Turkey. Thermador has named 2013 the “Year of the Designer”.

The council took two-and-a-half days of intense brainstorming to review prototypes and design ideas for their 2015-2016 products. Council members were asked to comment on all design and parts of their appliances. You may view the profile of the council members at Thermador’s website.

Other lines of their product include Bosch, Siemens and Gaggenau.
